ABSTRACT

This session is a consultation with a therapist (T), Shannon, who is a faculty member of a graduate counseling program and his client (C), a young woman recently married who is struggling with a career decision. She believes that there is a “right path” for her life and that she needs to be focused on finding it. As she puts it, “I accept that there are many paths,” but “my gut feels there is one that is right for me.” She has a deep spiritual faith in her Christian tradition and the therapist, a middle-aged man with associations with Native American spirituality and Christianity, has been addressing her with spiritual metaphors. She and her husband, who is not part of her therapy, are outdoors people who hunt, fish, and camp out quite frequently. They are getting ready for a trip to Africa.
