ABSTRACT

Cognition is the process of knowing, and the study of its development an attempt to explain how knowledge is acquired. My approach explores the role of art in identifying, evaluating, and developing cognitive skills. It is based on the premise that art can be a language of cognition paralleling the spoken word. Cognitive skills can be evident in visual as well as verbal conventions. These skills, traditionally assessed and developed through language, can also be assessed and developed through art activities.
