ABSTRACT

The previous chapter outlined some ways in which children in community settings may be disadvantaged relative to those in academic settings when receiving CBT. This chapter begins to outline some ways of addressing those disadvantages or “leveling the playing field.” The whole book develops this theme, but this chapter focuses on what is probably the most crucial factor: adequate assessment of the child and family. Because of the importance of assessment, it is a long and somewhat dense chapter. It is well worth reading through it though, to get a clear answer to the question “Can this child and family benefit from CBT?”
