ABSTRACT

For many years, the public relations industry in Mexico has struggled to become a discipline and get more professionalized. We begin this chapter with an analysis of the nature of the public relations industry, providing the definition of the concept of public relations itself, following with a history of the evolution of the public relations profession in the country, its agencies and its associations. We contend that growing from amateurship and into a professional discipline, public relations activities in the nation owe their maturity to activities carried out by the existing associations and to the fact that public relations is now being formally taught in universities all over the Mexican territory.
