ABSTRACT

Over five decades, miscue analysis has contributed to an understanding of the reading process, how people learn to read, and how teaching reading supports learning to read. In this chapter Ken Goodman discusses the role of miscue analysis in the development of his theory of reading, Yetta Goodman follows with an overview of the influences of miscue analysis on reading instruction, and Eric Paulson discusses the future of miscue analysis focusing on the development of a new research methodology: eye-movement/miscue analysis.
