ABSTRACT

In this chapter and the next, I present what I take to be Kant’s basic view of the thinking subject: the view, I claim, that constitutes his positive account in the fi rst two Paralogisms as against the rational psychologist’s bogus view. I shall use Kant’s own words to motivate the view, but the ultimate defense will be the detailed and consistent exegesis of the text of the two Paralogisms in Chapters 3 and 4.
