ABSTRACT

Many professions have competency examinations that, once passed, designate readiness for professional practice. These examinations assess a candidate’s mastery of subject area knowledge and are utilized as a requirement for certification/licensure. In school psychology, the Praxis Series serves in this capacity. The Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) Praxis Series School Psychologist is a high-stakes test for graduate students entering the profession of school psychology. In addition, school psychology practitioners desiring to apply for the credential of Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) are required to take the Praxis exam. In many arenas, attaining a successful score on the Praxis in School Psychology is a critical performance-based outcome measure of one’s knowledge in the field of school psychology.
