ABSTRACT
In what senses and to what extent is ethics alive in universities today? I shall argue in this chapter that there are serious questions to be asked about ethics in contemporary higher education. But in a different voice to that of Peter Jarvis’s thesis in Chapter 2, I shall argue that the discourse of ethics flourishes in higher education, albeit problematically, and that the behaviour of universities reflects considerable ethical concern for other people.
