ABSTRACT
Excellence is persistently emphasised in every aspect of university life. It is a mantra for hosts of educational institutions, accreditation bodies, and the plethora of organisations that support the education and development of students. The notion figures copiously in the literature on higher education and in standards of teaching. It is found highlighted in the missions and goals of institutions of higher education and there are countless mechanisms in place to foster it.
