ABSTRACT

Spinado (or Spin) is a variant of Newmarket, andis thus of the Pope Joan family, than which game it is decidedly less complicated; no board is wanted, and there are only three pools, viz., Matrimony, Intrigue, and Game, or “First Out.” The dealer contributes adozen counters to the first mentioned, and half a dozen to each of the other two; the remaining players each contribute three counters only, and these are placed in the Game division. Matrimony is formed by the king and queen of diamonds, and Intrigue by the queen and knave, and the ace of diamonds is known as “Spinado,” or more frequently “Spin.”
