ABSTRACT

As is the case with all technology, the future of online social networking on college campuses is occurring right now. Changing demographics of social networking sites indicate that older, out-of-college users are increasing in numbers, that global expansion of social networking sites like Facebook has created a multilingual, multinational social graph, and that niche user communities have multiplied. On campus, faculty, college administrators, advancement and alumni offi cers, campus security forces, employer recruiters, and parent associations are new but active and growing online social networking communities. Off campus, college alumni now use social networking sites like Facebook to connect both in professional and personal respects. More and more, employers use social networking sites as a head-hunting strategy for professional job candidates.
