ABSTRACT

Research suggests that beginning teachers face serious problems in the areas of teaching and learning in the first few years following their entry into the profession (Bullough, 1992; Calderhead & Robson, 1991). Given that the problems faced by beginning teachers have been linked to job dissatisfaction and turnover, it is important to examine the nature of these problems in an attempt to provide support and guidance to this group. Through this examination, the concerns of beginning teachers can be identified, making it possible to address potential sources of anxiety and dissatisfaction.
