ABSTRACT

A relatively new form of organizational collaboration-virtual groups whose members communicate primarily or entirely via e-mail, computer conferencing, chat, or voice-has become a common feature of twentyfirst century organizations. Virtual groups operate within organizations that have members spread out among different locations, or are made up of individuals from the same location but who work in different departments. Virtual groups are formed among members of different organizations for short-term alliances, or they allow individuals who are on-site at clients’ offices to coordinate with partners in their home organizations.
