ABSTRACT

According to the Non-Statutory Framework for Religious Education (QCA 2004), post16 Religious Education (RE) focuses on the higher levels of religious knowledge and understanding and upon the critical skills that enable pupils to assess and evaluative religious beliefs and practices; and all pupils in maintained schools are required to follow a post-16 course in RE. Some will pursue A/AS Level Religious Studies, but the majority will not. This chapter seeks to support your work in these two areas, though the emphasis will fall on non-examination RE (post-16 examination RE is considered in Chapter 8). It provides information to facilitate planning, suggestions for teaching and learning strategies and practical examples.
