ABSTRACT

To conclude, global art history can only benefit if it translates and incorporates whatever local art historical knowledge is accessible. Perhaps one of the most important aims of global art history is to turn the local art histories into parts of the “glocal” heritage.41 If questions of historicity and translation become clearer in the light of cultural and postcolonial studies, and if those studies have helped art history to clarify its own objectives, then the educational system should follow, and attempt to create new and more flexible models of teaching that can elevate art history to a global level.
