ABSTRACT

Evaluation and assessment have become more important aspects of teachers’ work in recent years, especially as a result of the requirement to assess children at the end of each Key Stage. Teachers and schools have been under too much pressure because of national tests and it is hoped that this will be eased a little if the suggested change is adopted of giving these tests when the teacher thinks each child is ready for it. This would be a much more useful arrangement than the present situation where children’s wider education tends to be neglected for a period while they are being prepared for the tests.
