ABSTRACT

We use the word ‘learn’ for several different activities. Sometimes we are asking children to memorise something, for example, ‘Learn those spellings’. Sometimes we are describing a more complex process involving different kinds of learning, such as ‘learning about conservation’, and sometimes we are talking about doing something, such as ‘John is learning to turn a back somersault’. These are three rather different approaches and children need to know how to tackle all three when required.
