ABSTRACT

Knowledge by itself is not sufficient to make an effective teacher; you also need specific and effective teaching skills. Society delegates to the teacher the task of educating children. The teacher and the children come to school each bringing with them a variety of talents, experiences and influences, which affect the way they teach and learn. Children will also have formed many ideas about the world around them before they come to school and these need to be taken into account by the teacher. In school, the teacher’s task is to see that the child experiences the curriculum, develops and learns, and in the process acquires learning skills. To achieve this the teacher creates a learning environment and organises time, space and resources to enable the child to learn.
