ABSTRACT

Hans-Georg Gadamer (1900-2002) was born in Marburg, Germany. He studied philosophy and classical philology at the University of Marburg, and took his doctorate under the direction of Martin Heidegger in 1929. He held posts at the universities of Marburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg. Although he retired in 1968, he remained active in research and writing until his death in 2002. His complete collected works fill ten volumes.
