ABSTRACT
The word texture has quite different meanings in the various arts. In music texture refers to the total effect of the interactions between and among melody, rhythm, timbre, and harmony. Several terms are used to classify some the more commonly encountered musical textures. These include monophony, homophony, and polyphony, along with heterophony and cacophony.
