ABSTRACT

As even a casual glance at these volumes will indicate, in recent years psychologists have acquired many new insights concerning the nature of effective learning strategies. As new knowledge has accumulated, some of it has begun to work its way into the school curriculum in the form of systematic instruction in learning strategies. In this chapter, we describe two sets of curriculum materials that offer students instruction in strategies for acquiring, analyzing, and reporting on information from texts. These materials are: Matrix Outlining and Analysis (MOAN) and the Chicago Mastery Learning Reading Program with Learning Strategies (CMLR/LS).
