ABSTRACT

There are many modern rewritings. The one by '$lilt~ Yi Haejo is i'.Ll::JI Kangsangnyon, "The Lotus on the River", but Kim Kidong, 29, gives it as iilllm Kangsannyon, published by Sin'gu SOrim, 1912. itffl":Efrif,\IJ Sim Ch'ong Wanghu chOn, "The Story of Queen Sim Ch'ong" by §~:$= Yo Kyuhyong is also mentioned in several sources, but very imprecisely. (There is a version by him of 460 iEtl=t:f Ch'unhyang chOn.) There is also a version of the story in English, "Sim Chung", in H.N. Allen: Korean Tales, G.P. Putnam, New York and London 1889, 152-169. This should also be in bis Korea, Fact and Fancy, 1904, which I have not seen.
