ABSTRACT

The quickest, simplest, and cheapest way to start getting your songs heard in the world is to play and sing them in public yourself. Perform, perform, perform!

Fortunately, since the 1960s, “singer-songwriter” has become a distinct music business niche. Many intimate clubs specialize in booking singer-songwriters, and many listeners enjoy hearing their personal, independent voices. Audiences (and cost-conscious producers) like the simplicity of a singer-songwriter act: one person, one instrument, one mike. This means that you have no excuse not to get out there. Put together a band if you can, but do not wait for a band. Get some solo time under your belt to develop your persona, to prove that you can stand on your “one human singing and playing” foundation.
