Th e Activity Focus: Mr. Gardner uses a collection of rainfall data to introduce addition and subtraction of decimals.
In science, Mr. Gardner’s class has been discussing the ecology of water with the study of droughts and fl oods. Mr. Gardner asked the students to choose a city on each continent and then use the Internet to fi nd the rainfall in the months May through August in each of the cities. He chose two of them, Paris and Beijing, for this mathematics activity.
