ABSTRACT

You have nearly made it! We now enter the classroom and turn to the centerpiece of teaching: instruction and discipline. While the curriculum discussed in chapter 8 represents the course of study of the school, instruction is the delivery of the curriculum content in the classroom. Teachers implement instruction either by explaining to students exactly what they need to know (authoritarian/subject-centered approach), or by guiding student’s learning through inquiry or discovery (democratic/learner-centered approach).
