For many programs, the personal interview with the candidate is the most important selection criterion. Mellott et al. ( 1997, p. 193) wrote:
You should make every effort to go to each training center to see it for yourself and interview in person. Not only should it enhance your candidacy, but it is your single best opportunity to obtain the data you need to evaluate the program and its personnel. If you are going to spend a year or more at a facility, you owe it to yourself to learn all you can about the placeY More than one applicant has walked into a place and immediately sensed, "This is not for me." I personally find a site visit indispensable in evaluating a program.
