ABSTRACT

The leaders of effective teams see their role as unifying a diverse group of people to work effectively as a team toward a common purpose under varied and often difficult conditions. Often leaders are needed to put an effective team together. Teams are rapidly replacing individuals as the primary unit of focus in many aspects of society. Many companies, schools, and agencies are learning how to build, nurture, lead, and dismantle teams. Team building is often used to improve the effectiveness of work groups. Groups and organizations often take on a collective personality, usually influenced by key individuals in the organization, both past and present. This collective personality is often called the team culture. The implementation of the program may involve one individual helping the other person on a one-to-one basis. On the other hand, implementation of the program may require peer leaders to lead support groups in which the groups talk about every day, common concerns.
