ABSTRACT
GOVERNMENT AND THE ECONOMY What role should government play in the organization, management, and performance of the U.S. economy? Or better yet, is there really a sense in which the government organizes the economy? Should government try to manage the economy? And finally, should citizens hold government responsible for the strength and performance of the economy, for the unemployment and inflation rates, and for the pace at which new jobs are created?
