ABSTRACT

I enter this discussion on social difference and schooling as a racial minority, Ghanaian-born scholar who is privileged to teach in an institution of higher learning in North America. My sojourn in this educational setting has often presented me with opportunities to critically reflect on the challenges of schooling and teaching students from diverse backgrounds. Like many others, I long for a school system that effectively responds to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population. This paper pinpoints some of the challenges and possibilities in this endeavor.
