ABSTRACT
The harsh metallic blast of a buzzer announced the beginning of sixth period and the students began straggling into the classroom for their daily dose of tenth grade English. The nine students were assigned to this particular class on the basis of their special education designation. They were all labeled emotionally and/or behaviorally disturbed, which had the effect of positioning them as among the “hardest kids to teach” in the school.
