ABSTRACT

Providing support for adolescents who struggle to read has emerged as a salient topic of interest nationwide. This chapter examines the efficacy of the response to intervention model in stemming the tide of poor reading and literacy skills for students in secondary schools. The response to intervention model is defined and implementation strategies and programs for students who struggle to read are explicated. The chapter offers suggestions for systemic change at the middle and high school level using the response to intervention model.
