ABSTRACT

In 2004-2005 I organized a film series at the Asperger’s Association of New England (https://www.aane.org) for my peers on the autism spectrum and their families, friends, and supporters. The goal was more than simply getting people together to socialize. The films were chosen because they highlight critical issues affecting living fully as a person on the autism spectrum: identity and self-esteem, membership in a community with a history and culture, and the realities and possibilities of interaction with the majority non-autistic population. After screening each film, we opened the floor for discussion of the issues each film touched on.
