ABSTRACT
The widespread mistrust between the Arab and Jewish communities in Palestine gradually degenerated into outright violence and terror in the late 1920s. This intensified as Jewish refugees fled to Palestine from Europe in the aftermath of Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. Despite British efforts to prevent the intercommunal violence from escalating, the number of murders and assassinations continued to rise. Unable to halt the terrorists, the British began to train and arm Jewish security forces, turning their backs on the Arabs.
