ABSTRACT

Matched microphones are strongly recommended for stereo techniques. There can be slight sonic differences between mics of the same make, model, and vintage – due to tolerances and differences between the components each mic is made from. Matched pairs undergo additional testing by the manufacturer in order to pair together mics of as similar performance as possible. This usually costs a little more than buying two individual mics, but you’re paying for this testing and the better, more accurate stereo images that will result!
