ABSTRACT

It makes sense that people want to know whether our nation’s schools are doing a good job. This is especially true for parents, who typically want to find out how good a particular school is-specifically, the school that their child attends. However, since the introduction of NCLB, standardized test scores have begun to override all other means of evaluating schools when, in fact, a broader range of evidence is needed. In this chapter you’ll learn what sorts of evidence are needed when trying to decide just how effective a particular school really is.
