ABSTRACT

When the Roosevelts moved to Washington in the fall of 1913, Franklin was thirty-one and Eleanor twenty-nine. They had been married eight years with three children: Anna born in 1906, James born in 1907, and Elliott born in 1910. A fourth child, Franklin, Jr., born in 1909, lived only seven and a half months. In 1914, Eleanor became pregnant with the second Franklin, Jr.
