ABSTRACT

This chapter is about setting boundaries. It is about eliminating stresses in your life that consume time and energy. It is about saying no to all of those activities that drain you, the things you do because you “should,” when you would rather be doing something else. What do you say no to? Say no to managed care and other toxicities. Say no to people who are unwilling to pay for your services. Say no to demands from organizations and colleagues. Say no to never-ending paperwork. Say no to anything you don’t want to do that saps your time and energy. This leaves you time to say yes to what you want to do, those things that nourish you and feed your soul. Although many of these suggestions are more relevant f or therapists in private practice, you can still utilize some of them if you are employed by an organization.
