ABSTRACT

In the last chapter, I talked about learning to recognize burnout in yourself and using your body’s cues to become aware of and reverse the burnout cycle. In this chapter, I will discuss further how to listen to your body and use it to educate you on a daily basis. The body speaks, and, over the years, I have begun to heed its voice, to pay attention to my actions, my dreams and intuition, those valuable sources of knowledge that guide me daily. The longer I live, the more I have come to marvel at and trust the information that I can gain from attending to those sources within me, what is popularly referred to as “right brain” springs of knowledge. I have learned to rely more and more on those resources and to respect them, combining them with analytical, “left brain” thinking for best results. Although objective data are very important-you have undoubtedly spent years and years in school, learning to respect the scientific method-educating yourself about and learning to trust your own subjective, internal wisdom is just as necessary. Your body is speaking to you daily, and you can utilize its guidance in your everyday life-inside and outside the office.
