ABSTRACT

I have talked at length about the emotional risks for clinicians of conducting therapy on a day-to-day basis. At times, you may get so focused on the stresses inherent in being a therapist that you may not see the transcending bigger picture. You have to tell yourself over and over why you are doing this work to begin with and appreciate the higher purpose of your calling-to look beyond the daily hassles of not enough time, conflicting demands, endless forms to fill out, unrealistic expectations, or other factors. In this chapter, I will elaborate on how to reap the rewards of your profession and go beyond some of the strains of practicing therapy.
