ABSTRACT

University-industry partnerships are important strategic issues for universities, for industry, and for governments alike. Universities are looking for new ways to remain relevant actors in the knowledge economy, which means that they need to secure funding sufficient to cope with the rising costs of research. Industrial firms are exploring ways of keeping abreast of technological progress in this highly uncertain, competitive and rapidly changing environment, and regard universities as important potential partners. Governments, concerned about national competitiveness, are looking for new models of innovation, and look to universities to play major roles in a transition to a knowledge economy.
