ABSTRACT

A genetic vector is used in genetic engineering It is a molecule of DNA that acts as a carrier. The gene that has been isolated is spliced into the vector DNA to produce recombinant DNA, which is then inserted into another organism. There are a variety of different genetic vectors and the one chosen will depend on the size of the isolated piece of DNA and the type of organism into which it is to be placed. Two of the most familiar vectors are viruses and plasmids.
