ABSTRACT
D Ice Ages: the common term for the periods when there were major cold phases, known as glacials, and ice sheets covered large areas of the world. Prior to 1950 it was believed that there were four major glacials during the last two million years, but recent studies of sediments on the ocean floors now suggest that there have been multiple glaciations, each interspersed by warmer phases or in terg lacia ls.
