ABSTRACT
Paleolithic: the earliest cultural period of hum an prehistory, the Old Stone Age, in which roughly shaped stones and some flints were used. Various culture periods have been identified coinciding with the Pleistocene Ice Age; each of these is nam ed after places in France (e.g. Chellean or Abbevillian) where there is greater evidence of occupation, e.g. cave paintings in the southwest.
