ABSTRACT
Studies of Third World cities, however, have shown that the picture of a bleak downward spiral is not always the case. To many migrants, urban life may be very superior. Employment can be found with better wages (see the Todaro Model) and many shanty towns are not always areas of deprivation, extreme poverty and disease. Some are very well-organized and not the first destination of recent immigrants to the city.
