ABSTRACT

The following represent factors that seem to characterize and impact many of the individual clients and families presented in the chapters.

Influence of Culture and Context The chapters address the influence of culture and social context on client’s needs, expectations, presenting issues, and distress narratives, as well as the course and outcome of counseling. Moreover, the chapters demonstrate that culturally influenced beliefs and practices often become more salient for individuals during intimate events in one’s life and in personal domains, such as those related to the family. In seems that such personal contexts often bring forth our most primal affective, cognitive, and behavioral reactions, which are often culturally based.
