ABSTRACT
Arthur Edward Lankford was born at the family farm in November 1879, in Potosi, Missouri. Arthur was one of sixteen children of Phillip Anderson Lankford (1837-1907) and Nancy Ella Johnson Lankford (1835-1884) and the younger brother of prominent architect JOHN ANDERSON LANKFORD and cousin of CLINTON STEVENS HARRIS and architect John Thomas Brown.1 Phillip Lankford, a freedman, owned the small farm and worked in the nearby mines. Nancy Lankford was a devout Christian and dedicated temperance worker.
