ABSTRACT
In previous chapters we have focused on what whites actually do in cases of racial victimization. On the assumption that some of the meaning of these antiblack actions can be found in “the souls of white folk,” we now turn to an examination of what whites say and believe about racial matters. This chapter explores the complicated views of whites about African Americans and U.S. racial relations and offers some explanations for white perspectives.
