ABSTRACT

Communications media are the means by which information is passed from one person to another whether carried out by gesture, talk, instrument or written word. It is through communication that information is passed to the decision-maker and resulting decisions passed to those involved in executing them. Without communication there could be no organization since it would be impossible to get people to act in a co-ordinated way; people would be linked together by an abstract chain of command but acting without a chain of understanding. Where communication is poor, co-ordination is poor since co-ordination implies that people are being informed about each other's plans. Furthermore, co-operation presupposes communication so that co-operation itself depends on communication.
