ABSTRACT
The campaign which had set out to bring Alexander to his senses and close off Russian ports to Great Britain had ended in disaster. Britain, which had been hard-pressed financially in 1810/11, was resurgent. Only the war with the United States prevented her from pouring massive subsidies into the Continent.
