ABSTRACT

How is it possible for one person to learn from another? There are many situations in which we learn from other people, ranging from early experiences with parents to conversations with friends to school settings with instructors. The content of what is learned ranges from mere factual knowledge to markedly new perspectives. This essay explores the possibility of learning something new from another person. In it, I use the common terms “learner” and “teacher” in a functional fashion, to stand for the-one-who-learns and the-other-from-whom-one-learns, respectively, either in school or out.
